FELNDENKRIAS AND CI - PEOTRY OF RISING AND FALLING
The pattern of rising and falling reflects opposite aspects of a natural cycle. It is a dichotomy that is present in our breathing and in our primordial movement patterns; and it is manifested clearly in a contact improvisation dance.
I will share my ongoing research into the influence of the Feldenkrais Method on the practice of Contact Improvisation by exploring the theme of rising and falling.Through the Feldenkrais Method, we focus on internal sensations without judgment, recognizing the innate intelligence of the body. By cultivating curiosity and exploring new possibilities, we become more aware of our habitual patterns and refine our choices, promoting greater efficiency, freedom, confidence and ease throughout the whole self.
This way of tuning into our experiences grounds us in the present moment and helps us find a felt sense of self that seeks to engage with the environment and others. Working with a partner further enhances this process; while engaging with touch and weight, we find more clarity in sensing, reading and communicating. Commitment to gravity, a sense of trust, imagination and curiosity are the ingredients that support us in exploring the journey through falling, rising, lifting and flying, whether alone, in duets or in a group. Being fully in the present nourishes every moment of our dancing, allowing us to deepen and enjoy subtle, light and almost invisible instants of rising and falling, as well as vigorous, exciting and unpredictable moments of rising, falling and flying.
SIMONETTA ALLESSANDRI
Simonetta is an Italian dance artist and a somatic educator based in London. She applies the Feldenkrais Method in dance and movement training and in performance making. She teaches at Trinity Laban, Goldsmiths University and London Contemporary Dance School. Her work is informed by more than 30 years of dancing, teaching and choreographing. Her choreography has been for dance companies, student pieces, large scale opera, improvised performance, site specific and movement direction for theatre. She taught for more than 20 years in Italy and kept Contact Improvisation alive in Roma for 10 years with her classes and jams. She was one of the few dance practitioner in Italy who began working with CI in the 90’s. She has been a guest teacher in Germany, Colombia, UK, Norway, Israel, France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain and Taiwan. She obtained the Post Graduated Diploma at London Contemporary Dance School, she is a qualified teacher of the Feldenkrais Method and she holds the Teacher Certificate of the Royal Academy of Dance. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is one of the founders of CI@Goldsmiths, newly established association of dance artists dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of Contact Improvisation in London and UK

FELDENKRAIS UND CI – EINE POETIK AUS STEIGEN UND FALLEN
Das Muster von Anstieg und Fallen spiegelt die entgegengesetzten Aspekte eines natürlichen Zyklus. Es ist eine Dichotomie, die in unserer Atmung und in unseren ursprünglichen Bewegungsmustern vorhanden ist; und sie wird in einem Tanz deutlich manifestiert.
Ich werde den Einfluss der Feldenkrais-Methode auf die Praxis der Contact Improvisation teilen, indem ich das Thema des Steigens und Fallens erforsche: Durch die Feldenkrais-Methode konzentrieren wir uns auf innere Empfindungen, ohne zu urteilen, und erkennen die angeborene Intelligenz des Körpers. Indem wir Neugierde kultivieren und neue Möglichkeiten erforschen, werden wir uns unserer gewohnten Muster bewusster und verfeinern unsere Entscheidungen, was zu größerer Effizienz, Freiheit, Vertrauen und Leichtigkeit im gesamten Selbst führt.
Diese Art, uns auf unsere Erfahrungen einzustimmen, verankert uns im gegenwärtigen Moment und hilft uns, einen gefühlten Sinn für uns selbst zu finden, der sich mit der Umwelt und anderen in Verbindung setzen will. Die Arbeit mit einem Partner fördert diesen Prozess. Indem wir uns auf Berührung und Gewicht einlassen, finden wir mehr Klarheit beim Wahrnehmen, Lesen und Kommunizieren. Hingabe an Schwerkraft, Vertrauen, Vorstellungs-kraft und Neugier sind die Zutaten, die uns bei der Erkundung der Reise durch Fallen, Steigen, Heben und Fliegen unterstützen, ob allein, im Duett oder in der Gruppe. Ganz in der Gegenwart zu sein, nährt jeden Moment unseres Tanzes und erlaubt uns, subtile, leichte und fast unsichtbare Momente des Aufsteigens und Fallens zu vertiefen und zu genießen, ebenso wie kraftvolle, aufregende und unvorhersehbare Momente des Aufsteigens, Fallens und Fliegens.
