We want to celebrate π the people and projects putting local food growing at the heart β€οΈ of what they do. Who are the local heroes π¦ΈββοΈ or projects in your community that deserve recognition? Let us know!
Building on the success of last year's Feed Leeds Local Food Growing Awards, you can nominate people and projects in the following five categories. Which category inspires you the most? π
Nominations are open until Sunday 2 Feb. Don't miss your chance to highlight those making a difference! π»
1. Most Enthusiastic Young or School Gardener π± β Feed Leeds wants to celebrate young people who are getting their hands dirty and learning to grow food. This can be in their own, school, or community garden. Tell us about the young people in Leeds making a difference. Do you know a young gardener who inspires you?
2. Outstanding Community Champion π β We know that the success of community gardening projects depends on the commitment of individuals who turn up each week with enthusiasm to learn, share, encourage, and engage others in getting involved with food growing. Who is your local community champion? Tag them and let us know why they deserve recognition!
3. Best Community Food Growing Initiative πΎ β Amid concerns for the climate emergency and increasing inequality, Feed Leeds wants to showcase food growing projects that are helping communities become more sustainable and resilient. It could be a project that teaches people to grow their own food, a community orchard, one that supplies fresh produce to local food banks and community kitchens, or one that teaches people to make their own compost at home. Tell us how your project helps others. What impact has this initiative had on your community?
4. Best Local Business Supporting Local Food Growing Enterprises π’ β Local retailers and restaurants play an integral role in supporting local food growing enterprises, helping them to be financially viable.
We want to discover the retail businesses, caterers, cafes, and restaurants supporting local food growing enterprises so we can celebrate their vision and commitment to supporting the Leeds local food network. Who do you think should be nominated for their exceptional support?
5. Best Community Composting Group πΏ β Composting food scraps is a great way to reduce carbon emissions and return nutrients back to the soil. Composting groups can be within a school, in a community gardening project, or amongst friends and neighbors. Do you know a group that is doing amazing work in composting? Nominate by following the link!
Let's come together to recognize and celebrate those who make a positive impact on our community through food growing! πΏπ Who will you nominate? π»
