Emerging from a pervasive online movement; metaphorical radicalisation pharmaceuticals has become the new means of aligning identity with reality. Red pills, blue pills, black pills, white pills, purple pills are being swallowed by diverse online fora, to image which awakening they subscribe to.
Semantic pharma products promise to align visitors with bespoke online doctrines. Feed yourself content & pills in an ongoing algorithmic feedback loop that merges users with data. Get
high. Resolve the demarcation between the user as human and the user as data. Get nauseated.
Vomit. Do it again.
The exhibition accumulates memes, print and a new 3D video work into a total rhizomatic digital collage installation and invites users to leave with pharmaceuticals for the new age.
Connected to the exhibition, Holk presents FEED ME CONTENT: a performance featuring Holk’s own large language model that is trained to be a prompt engineer for performances; the two of
them will generate a participatory performance that questions humans' relationship to tech (-billionaires) & the power of algorithms.
ABOUT THE ARTIST: Esben Holk is a Visual Artist (BA Bergen Academy 2017), Video Game Designer (MA The Royal Academy 2023) & Creative Developer exploring virtual existentialism,
identity and technoscience through online media content dissemination & -consumption, worldbuilding technology and creative coding. Placing internet native image ecologies and personal artifacts in generative chaos systems, they create post-ironic bad jokes, digital interaction & procedural worlds, that collage into an ongoing rhizomatic fiction that blends their queer life & -politics with life online. Holk has amongst other places exhibited with Transmediale, Vorpiele, CTM, Museum of Human
Achievement, Panke.Gallery & Die Digitale.
