We begin our tenth year on Wednesday February 5th with the uncommon talent that is Dylis Jones. An unassuming writer, whose ability for storytelling and unerring deadpan style, is well overdue a guest author spot. Join us and Dylis at Hull Central Library from 2pm – 4pm. , upstairs first floor in the James Reckitt Reading Room."Dylis Jones began writing poetry and graduated to giving public readings when she started attending Subtle Flame, the much missed poetry group. She drew courage from the experience of reading at Subtle Flame, and went on to attend other poetry groups in the Hull and Beverley area. Her poems are inspired by various sources, including news items; stories from history: oddities and absurdities generally."
Join us from 2pm in the James Reckitt Reading Room upstairs – lift access available – We run the open mic at our monthly event each slot – strictly five minutes, please time your pieces at home beforehand – the list will open about half past one. This time constraint is vital to encourage different voices and subject matters, thus creating a varied listening experience for the audience. And there will be a break, where we will pass around the hat for donations. The suggested donation is two pounds per person. If you can’t donate we understand, it is not mandatory.
Women of Words is an event series and platform for women writers, set up in 2016 as a response to what was then a male dominated scene. The stage is reserved for women, but men are and have always been, welcome in the audience.
