⚓ RAID Event – F- Jetty, Catalina Bay (Rathmines Lake Macquarie)Claiming the date: February 21st & 22nd
This February RAID is a relaxed, practical, and social weekend afloat, built around three simple pleasures of small-boat life:
🛠 Trailer Tinkering · ⛺ Social Camping · ⛵ Casual Sailing
No pressure, no hard schedule — just boats, tools, water, and good company.
⸻
1️⃣ Trailer Maintenance (Saturday Morning Focus)
The heart of the weekend is a bit of hands-on (or hands-off) trailer care.
Paint touch-ups, electrical gremlins, roller replacement, inspections, lubrication, or simply standing around pointing at things and saying “Yeah… that’ll need doing one day.”
Bring along:
• Any tools you think you might need (clearly labelled)
• Paint, parts, grease, ideas
• A generator if you have one
We’ll tackle small jobs together, lend a hand where needed, and share ideas. Even if you’re not fixing anything, it’s a great chance to learn, observe, or plan future upgrades.
We’ll aim to wrap up the spanners by late morning, then shift gears for the afternoon sail. If need be we can do some more Sunday.
⸻
2️⃣ Social Camping & Sundowners
Catalina Bay offers a sheltered and friendly spot to unwind once the tools are down.
There are community BBQs near the F-jetty, making it an easy place to gather as the sun slides down behind the hills. Bring food, a drink of choice, a chair (or cockpit), and enjoy a relaxed evening of stories, laughs, and planning future RAIDs.
For those who haven’t camped aboard before, this is a great, low-stress introduction to boat camping in protected water. If boat camping isn’t your thing just yet, there’s always the option to retreat to my rooftop tent.
Don’t forget your fenders — neighbours are friendly, but boats still like a buffer.
⸻
3️⃣ Casual Sailing & On-Water Practice
When we’re not tinkering or eating, Catalina Bay is a perfect playground.
Whether you want to:
• Try a rig change
• Practice sailing or rowing
• Explore a new corner of the lake
• Or just drift about with friends nearby
There’s no set destination and no pressure. Help is close, advice is plentiful, and the vibe is very much learn, try, enjoy.
⸻
⚠️ A Note on Camping & the Shoreline
The shoreline itself is not a designated camping area and is regularly used by dog walkers and runners.
However, under local council bylaws, if you have a vessel in the water and are awaiting assistance, you are permitted to remain with your boat overnight for security purposes, for up to 24 hours.
As always — low impact, respectful, tidy, and friendly. Event organisers accept no responsibility for your safety and craft. You are the skipper of your own vessel and accept all responsibility for the weekends events if attending this Raid.
