February DIY Journal Workshop: Make a custom 160-page journal

Make your own journal in this guided, step-by-step workshop. No bookmaking experience needed. You'll leave with a completed notebook.
About this Event

We're going to make a book together. We'll be choosing covers, papers and binding thread and sewing a DIY journal.

The cover will be one of several options of professional quality, high-end thick papers. Interior papers will be up-cycled from a local printer and the spines will be laser-cut wood. You can mix and match paper colors.

You will spend three hours in this fun, hands on workshop learning to construct your own journal. We will begin with envisioning how to use your journal for an intentional journaling practice (junk journaling, bullet journaling, scrapbooking, writing, sketching, etc.) and Jolinda will show real examples of how she has used handmade journals over the last 8 years. Using the Bullet Journal method, she's managed personal goals and finances in this pen and paper system.

When you arrive, you will select your journal cover, interior papers, a wooden spine and coordinating thread to bind your journal. You will leave with a completed handmade journal and lots of ideas on how to use this in your daily life.

No book making or journaling experience is needed. The entire project is broken down into easy to follow steps, and your journal cover and spine have already been prepared and set up for you.

If you have any colorful or patterned papers you'd like to use, anything 7.5" x 11" or larger can be cut down to size to bind into the book.

β€’ IN-PERSON - $60, all materials included. 12 participants, max. Bring your own specialty papers and supplies and use all of my machines on-site. Sales end Sunday, February 15 at 11:00am.

PARKING NOTE:
On Sundays, there is FREE street parking on Broad and the surrounding side streets.

Agenda

πŸ•‘: 12:40 PM - 01:10 PM
Arrive & Get Settled

Info: Allow a few minutes to arrive and park. You'll walk up one flight of stairs (or catch the elevator to floor 2). If you'd like a snack or specialty coffee, stop into Stella's on East Grace Street a few blocks away. We'll aim to get started by 1:15p to allow plenty of time to make the book.

πŸ•‘: 01:15 PM - 01:30 PM
Background & Intention Setting

Info: I will share my history with this type of book making and my personal experience with journaling in this way. If you have an intention for how you'll use your book, you'll have a chance to share with the group. If you'd prefer to sit back and listen only, that is totally ok too!

πŸ•‘: 01:30 PM - 04:00 PM
Make Your Book!

Info: You'll select your covers, spine, papers and thread and begin constructing your book. Each step will be guided and you'll have plenty of time to complete your journal. Folks with previous book making experience may wrap up by 3:30. For total newbies, you'll use the full 2.5 hours to complete your hand sewn journal.
