Our February feature presentation will be "What's Next at the USF Botanical Gardens?" by chapter favorite Craig Huegel. The USF Botanical Garden offers 16 acres of gardens and habitat types, from temperate to tropical forests, including plant species found in Florida's wild lands. Craig will take us through recent work on the gardens that have enhanced their biodiversity and habitat value and provided new opportunities to educate USF students, volunteers, and the public about the beauty and value of native plants.About our speaker: Craig Huegel was named the Director of the USF Botanical Garden in the fall of 2022. A prolific author and educator, Craig is known for promoting wildlife-attracting landscapes. At the University of Florida, he co-founded the Urban Wildlife Extension Program and established the Florida Backyard Wildlife Habitat Program. He also established the Pinellas County Environmental Lands Division and served as Division Administrator for twelve years. He has received numerous state and regional awards for his ongoing environmental education, restoration, and preservation efforts. In 2020, he received the FNPS Mentor Award.
