Join us for Featured Firsts at Turnagain Ceramics! Each first Friday, we hold an opening reception for a different local ceramic artist, featuring a free community throw! Our front gallery has a treasure trove of pottery and ceramic art that our studio members lovingly handcraft. From plates, mugs, and bowls to jewelry and sculpture, our gallery has it all!“Tripaw Pottery by Kelly Smith: Kelly is an Elementary School Nurse who got into pottery about two years ago by taking an introductory class at Turnagain
Ceramics. The studio quickly became a haven and a small escape from grief and stress. She enjoys creating pieces with the intent of bringing a smile and some joy to others. Animals and sea life with a touch of whimsy are the main themes. While able to throw and hand build, sculpture is her favorite. The name, Tripaw Pottery, comes from the fact that Kelly is the proud owner of two three-footed rescue Chihuahuas. When not in the studio, she can be found hiking in the mountains with her three dogs, woodworking, or seeking out adventures.”
“As a dedicated mother of two and supportive wife, Tina finds balance amid life's whirlwind through pottery. She was raised in Fairbanks, AK and her love for clay art spans over 25 years. She first discovered the therapeutic escape of pottery in high school, and it has remained her creative outlet ever since. While not always at the forefront, building a family and moving around a lot took precedence, Turnagain Ceramics provided an inspirational space and community to dedicate more time to expand her artistic aspirations. Drawing inspiration from our vast Alaska landscape, Tina loves creating pieces that reflect the beauty of nature. She finds immense joy in knowing that her pieces bring comfort and utility to others' lives. Whether it's a mug for morning coffee or a bowl for warm soups, the connection between creator and user adds a special touch to everyday moments. Outside of playing with clay, she can be found running a family business, Kenai Design Co. (@kenaidesignco), substitute teaching, traveling, and recreating outdoors. Tina's pottery can be found in the TC gallery in Anchorage, as well as Soothe boutique shop (@soothe.collection) located in Kenai, AK.”
