Join us for Featured Firsts at Turnagain Ceramics! Each first Friday, we hold an opening reception for a different local ceramic artist, featuring a free community throw! Our front gallery has a treasure trove of pottery and ceramic art that our studio members lovingly handcraft. From plates, mugs, and bowls to jewelry and sculpture, our gallery has it all!
This November, our featured artists are Avery Krompacky and Meghan Terhune.
“Avery Krompacky is a visual artist who was raised in Talkeetna, Alaska. He has studied ceramics at the University of Alaska Anchorage and is slowly working toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Ceramics. He works as the Events & Retail Lead at Turnagain Ceramics. Avery strives to embody softness, tenderness, and comfort in his work. He draws inspiration from fiber arts, his love of plants, his past career as a professional baker, a childhood spent among birches and creeping dogwood, and the nebulous feeling of ‘home’ we all yearn for. He loves translucent porcelain for its ability to walk the line between clay and glass. You can find Avery’s work on Instagram @dogwoodhomewares or @averykrompacky. When he's not in the studio, Avery can be found, either at home or in the woods, spending time with his partner and their two ferrets.”
“Meghan Terhune was raised in Fairbanks, Alaska, where she first discovered ceramics in high school. Captivated by the medium, she continued to pursue pottery throughout her undergraduate studies and beyond, taking classes at both the University of Alaska Fairbanks and the University of Alaska Anchorage. After a recent hiatus from clay while out of state attending graduate school, she’s thrilled to be back at the wheel as a member of Turnagain Ceramics.
Meghan’s work centers on functional, tactile forms designed to feel good in the hands. She often incorporates subtle contrasts—playing with texture and smoothness, matte and glossy finishes, or the balance between quiet forms and unexpected, playful details. Many of her pieces hide small surprises on the bottom, inviting curiosity and interaction. When she's not in the studio, she can be found enjoying her work as an acupuncturist or spending time in nature with her husband and their dogs.”
