Join Wes Homoya—native Hoosier, avid birder, international tour guide, and passionate conservationist—for another quarterly installment of everyone's favorite local birdin' 'n boozin' brew bus benefit bash, as we explore nature and enjoy quality adult beverages together, and for good causes!
We meet and begin our adventure at 2:30 p.m. at Ash & Elm Cider Co.'s downtown location (1301 E. Washington St.) for a convivial guided tasting, time to enjoy a glass of your preference, and a chance to buy carryout libations for the roadtrip. You can, of course, drink on the bus; consider bringing your favorite growler to fill, and Ash & Elm has a special on Sundays.
Heading northwest, we'll arrive at one of the newest public nature experience additions to the Indy area, the lovely 45-acre Overley-Worman Park in Zionsville. Once there, a short stroll will take us along a forested trail beside Eagle Creek, past a scenic overlook, and on a boardwalk encircling a small fishing pond. In early September, we find ourselves in the "serotinal" period between late summer and early fall. Thus, we can expect to come across both lingering summer nesting birds, as well as some of the earlier fall migrants moving through our area.
Afterwards, our bus will take us to nearby Deviate Brewing, a fan favorite of all Hoosier beer drinkers. More beverages and fun there, and then we'll return to Ash and Elm around 6:45 p.m., where our tour comes to an end. Everyone is invited to continue hanging out, get something to eat, and of course drink more delicious cider and chat all about birds until you're ready to head home.
Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring binoculars if you like or have them (we will have a limited number available to borrow). Whether you've never been birding before or consider yourself an expert, you are most welcome.
Bottled water and cups will be provided on the bus. The cost is $50 per person, with all profits benefiting the Indiana Audubon Society and the Zionsville Parks Foundation. It will be a great time for anyone age 21 and older.
