We honor Mary because she chose to say "yes" to God and expressed herself through a hymn of praise and thanksgiving in the Magnificat. We honor the fact she gave birth to Jesus and, along with her husband, Joseph, protected and raised him in his youth. She was there for Jesus' first public miracle during the Wedding at Cana, and spoke words all Christians should heed: “Do whatever he tells you.” She was near the foot of the cross when Jesus asked the Apostle John to look after her as his own mother. And in Acts, she was among the disciples awaiting the gift of the Holy Spirit.
