About this Event

Singing from 7-9pm (with a tea break)

Doors open at 6:45pm to get settled.

Social afterwards in a local pub!

We were blown away by the response to our last few open sessions. It made us realise the need and desire for some regular, queer, joyful singing is deep. In response, we're going to run regular open sessions for us to connect and open up what we do. We want to see you and hear you.

What to expect?

Facilitated by our fearless leader, Jenny Moore, this open session is a chance for us all to meet, connect, vibrate, vocalise, laugh, play, explore and blow off some steam. You can expect physical and vocal warmups, quick cannons and queer folk chants-cum-dance tunes, group sonic meditations, and an introduction to some of the F* repertoire.

No experience is necessary, and there is no terrifying 'please sing on your own now' moments or auditions of any kind. We believe that singing should be accessible to all and that queer voices should be heard. That music has the power to change us and remake the world. That singing together commits us to joy and keeping hope alive.

We're going to prioritise places for Black and Brown folks in these sessions, committing to making sure the choir doesn't get even more white.

What does it cost?

F*Choir runs on a notched fee system, meaning folks pay what they can based on current life circumstances. For this session we've mapped out some options:

£10 regular ticket

£20 solidarity ticket which pays for someone else to join who can't afford it otherwise

£32 regular ticket + a hand-printed F*Choir T-Shirt

There's a handful of Unwaged £5 tickets and free bursary spots for anyone who needs them.

And finally, Donations are always welcome if you'd like to further support our work, or if you can't make the date but still want to send some love. We've learnt that every pound is transformative to this kind of practice.

What's the space like?

Our regular rehearsal space is in the Upper Hall of St Barnabas, meaning there are approximately 20 steps and no lift. If this means you cannot attend, please email us and we'll explore other options with the church. The studio is large and airy, with windows and a fire escape that open to fresh air. There are couches, chairs, and a wooden floor.

On the ground level, there's a kitchen where you can make tea, coffee, water, juice, and bring snacks for the break.

There are 3 gender neutral single cubicle toilets, one of which is wheelchair accessible.

Who is F*Choir?

F*Choir is a queer-led, intergenerational, London-based choir founded by performance artist and drummer Jenny Moore. Using non-gendered voice parts and unconventional scores, they sing percussive and experimental choral arrangements about freedom and being alive. They use the choir as a form of feminist practice and communal singing as a type of magic & connection.

"a night of symphonious sizzlers, collective rage, thrumming body percussion and outright feral bangers." (about Hot Choir Summer, Matchstick Piehouse, June 2022)

"what the f*** just happened?" (feedback from F*Choir gig)

"F*Choir brings us all out of isolation" (F*Choir member)
