About this Event

What are FCCAN networking events?

FCCAN networking events are for representatives of any Fife community group, charity, community council, development trust etc, who are taking action on the climate or biodiversity crisis, or who would like to get involved. Our networking events share learning and inspiration and can lead to new partnerships and projects. Just bring along your curiosity and ideas!

What is this event about?

You are invited by Fife Communities Climate Action Network (FCCAN) to join us for a networking event in Tayport, hosted by the Tayport Community Trust and PLANT (People Learning About Nature in Tayport).

Where is the event taking place?

The event will take place at the Larick Centre and the Tayport Community Garden. The Larick Centre is based in Tayport and provides a community space for the residents of Tayport and visitors to meet, socialise and enjoy a variety of activities and events.

The Centre is located near Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve and the beach.

What will happen during the event?

The agenda planned for the day is as follows:

10.00: Arrive - Tea/Coffee

10.30: Introduction to the Larick Centre

10.40: Larick Centre Solar Panel Project

11.00: Comfort break and some networking

11.15: PLANT to Plate project

12.00: Make our way to the Community Garden

12.30: Lunch at the Community Garden

13.00: Community Garden projects including composting and wildlife pond

13.30: Close

14.00: Option to return to Larick Centre for a screening of the Film: Why not Scotland?

Why Not Scotland? explores the Scottish landscape through the eyes of a young Scot. The film addresses the contrast between the depleted state of nature across Scotland and areas in Europe where nature is making a dramatic comeback. If this is possible elsewhere, then - why not Scotland?

This will be open to members of the public and those attending the networking event are warmly invited to attend this screening. The screening of that will take around 1 hour.

A few things to note

  • The event is suitable for adults and families. Children under 14 should be accompanied by an adult.
  • Tea/Coffee will be provided on arrival. A buffet lunch and fruit will be provided. Please advise us of any dietary requirements or allergies when you complete the booking form.
  • The event will be partly outdoors, so please dress appropriately, including footwear. Paths are level and the Community Garden is accessible to wheelchairs. However, the ground can be stony and/or wet.

Travel/accessibility notes:

  • Tayport is on the south side of the Tay, four miles from the centre of Dundee, twelve miles from St Andrews, and 12 miles from Cupar.
  • The closest railway stations are Leuchars or Dundee and it is a short cycle trip from either station.
  • Alternatively, both stations are served by bus services. The 42A bus (St Andrews – Dundee) stops close to the Larick Centre. The 42 bus (Glenrothes – Dundee) stops at Tayport Library, a 10-minute walk.
  • By car: From the north or from the south on the A92 turn off at the roundabout on the southern end of the Tay Bridge to the B946. (There’s currently major roadworks on the Tay Road Bridge and it’s not possible to turn off at the roundabout at the southern end of the bridge. Follow diversion from Newport roundabout).
  • From the south from St Andrews or Cupar take the B945 from St Michaels.
  • The best approach to the Larick Centre is down Maitland and Nelson Streets. Take the third exit at the roundabout at the end of Maitland Street into Nelson Street. Nelson Street becomes Shanwell Road, and you will see the Larick Centre on your left-hand side. There is free parking available, including disabled parking, as well as cycle parking. The Larick Centre is fully accessible to wheelchair users.
