Favourite Kid are performing for the first time in Sydney on Wednesday 25th September at the Petersham Bowling Club with support acts from Sydney local songwriters Camon and Abigail Wighton.
Favourite Kid
Favourite Kid are a dynamic sibling trio who bounced onto Queensland’s indie-folk, pop and alt-country music scene over six years ago when older brother, Ethan, 26, started writing and recording his own songs and embarked on a musical journey under the moniker Aspy Jones. He persuaded his talented younger sister, Jaimie, 24, and brother Saul, 21, to join him, cementing his upbeat, eclectic tunes and raw lyrics with a family collaboration of sibling harmonies and lively storytelling. Favourite Kid are heavily influenced by Mumford & Sons, George Ezra and The Lumineers and are due to release their debut album in 2025. They have been lucky enough to have their songs played regularly on ABC Radio Sunshine Coast.
Favourite Kid celebrate neurodiversity and Ethan has recently been awarded Q Music’s Dalwood-Wylie Foundation Scholarship for 2024. The family band have already graced the renowned stages at many venues and festivals including Woodford Folk Festival, Mitchell Creek, Rock and Blues Fest, Queensland Music Festival, Undercover Artist Festival and the Gympie Music Muster. Their exceptional talent earned them a Limelight Award when they played at the Caloundra Music Festival and they have also been lucky enough to support Fanny Lumsden and the ‘The Fabulous Caprettos’ featuring Daryl Braithwaite, Russell Morris, Rai Thistlethwaite and Jack Jones.
Favourite Kid originates from the musically rich country of Wales, known as 'The Land of Song' where they were born in Wrexham. Their musical journey continued when their parents moved to Australia and they were raised in Gympie in regional Queensland. Here, they embarked on their musical odyssey as teenagers at the Australian Institute of Country Music.
Carmon
Carmon is an Australian neurodivergent indie-folk-pop singer-songwriter who weaves emotions into melodies with her breathless voice and heartfelt lyrics. Inspired by artists like Lizzy McAlpine, Phoebe Bridgers, and Joni Mitchell, her music blends smooth, melodic tones with themes of mental health, anxiety, and self-discovery. From a young age, music has been Carmon’s emotional outlet, helping her navigate the challenges of Autism, ADHD, and anxiety. Now, she aims to make a difference by using her music to break the stigma around mental health, sharing her journey and inspiring others. Her debut EP “Burnout” has received airplay from Sydney to Brisbane, and she regularly performs at venues around Sydney. Carmon’s latest singles, "Blood On My Hands" and "End Up Dead," were released on Friday, September 13th, 2024, ahead of her debut album “All My Life”.
Abigail Wighton
Abigail Wighton is an indie-folk singer-songwriter based in Sydney, Australia on Wangal land. She writes and performs heartfelt honest songs about love, loss and the human experience. Her shows involve soul bearing lyrics, beautiful acoustic guitar playing and witty interludes that surprisingly feel like a chat with your best friend. Abigail has been paving her way in the folk and country singer/songwriter scene, recently opening for Fanny Lumsden at her Country Halls Sydney show as well as Colin Buchanan at The Beer Shed. Abigail was invited to showcase her original songs at the
2024 National Folk Festival. Abigail released her 2nd EP ‘soon’ in May receiving high praise. She is grateful for all the support from community radio stations around the country and is incredibly honoured to have been played by Beccy Cole on ABC Country. She toured throughout June and July in 8 towns to mark this occasion.
