FAUST IN THE ANTHROPOCENE by Al D'Andrea will debut at The Hill Arts (formerly St. Lawrence Arts) on Munjoy Hill in Portland, opening April 4, 2025 and running through April 13. This groundbreaking and startlingly original new work features Wisdom Tales from the Land of Snows woven together with familiar characters from both the Faust legend and our own troubled times. Original music by Aaron Robinson will be heard throughout the show, including the rock anthem Kali Yuga (Dark Age).
This show is the perfect lead-in to EARTH DAY (April 22) as it traces the efforts of eco-activist ZEE and her compatriots to bring awareness and resistance to the earth-damaging behavior of billionaire FAUST, who has made a bargain with the embodiment of his ego, MARA, for limitless power. ZEE must find a way to reach FAUST and stop his destructive activities. Wandering yogi SHABKAR, through parables and teaching tales, offers a glimpse of the only way to find peace and sanity in a world gone mad.
