On behalf of Children’s Institute (CII), we are thrilled to invite fathers and father figures to come celebrate Fatherhood Well-being Month. Join us to review and reflect on prioritizing men's well-being as well as past and ongoing advocacy to improve programs and services for our fathers across Los Angeles County.
Location: CII's Watts Campus (10200 Success Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90002).
Date & Time: Thursday, June 27th from 5:30-8pm
On June 27, 2023, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors adopted a motion in support of state resolution HR 36 and "Proclaiming June 2023 as Fatherhood Well-being Month in Los Angeles County.” Additionally, the county motion called for a report that identifies service gaps and recommendations to improve public social service access for fathers, and directed the “convening of community stakeholders and relevant County departments to discuss ways in which the County of Los Angeles can better serve fathers to access public benefits and remain connected in their children’s lives.”
Between November 2023 and January 2024, fathers and community partners across Los Angeles County joined listening sessions with county representatives to discuss improvements to fathers’ access to critical services. The final report included that feedback and the Board of Supervisors approved it in mid-March.
At this event, we will celebrate Fatherhood Well-Being Month by:
1) Facilitating a conversation on prioritizing men's mental health and
2) Honoring fathers' advocacy and contributions to the county fatherhood report. We will review and reflect on a report summary and discuss future fatherhood advocacy at CII. We will also review a recently published research article on the impact of Project Fatherhood programs, authored by USC professors and the Director of Project Fatherhood, Keith Parker.
Dinner will be provided and will begin at 5:30pm.
Fatherhood advocacy recognition and report reflection will begin at 6:00pm.
The men's mental health conversation will begin at 7:00pm.
