Father and daughter Jim Whiteman and Lindsay Whiteman will share the stage during the monthly Hard Luck Café concert co-presented by the Folk Music Society of Huntington and the Cinema Arts Centre (423 Park Avenue, Huntington, NY) in the Cinema’s Sky Room on Wednesday, February 18, from 7-10 p.m.The concert featuring these two Long Island singer-songwriters who offer a broad range of unique and entertaining original songs starts at 8 p.m., preceded by an open mic at 7 p.m. Tickets are $26 ($20 for Cinema Arts Centre/FMSH members) and are available online via cinemartscentre.org and at the box office through the evening of the show.
Lindsay Whiteman released her debut album, Quick The Train Is Coming, in late 2025. Her powerful reflections on love and heartbreak beautifully toe the line between folk and pop, with her resonant voice and guitar front and center, along with her insightful songwriting. Lindsay says she writes because “sometimes writing your ex’s name on a plate and smashing it isn’t enough.” Lindsay has opened for Loudon Wainwright III at City Winery in NYC, and for JORDY in Boston. She has also played at the Girls Rising Music Festival, the Stephen Talkhouse, My Father’s Place, Arlene’s Grocery, and Rockwood Music Hall. Lindsay’s music can be found on all streaming platforms.
Jim Whiteman is something of an enigma on the LI music scene. Following a 35-year career in TV news, Jim has made a name for himself by writing and performing a steady stream of highly charged, troubadour-style songs. Favorite topics include politics and presidents, as well as loved ones — no one gets a pass. Some critics complain Jim’s songs are “too woke,” while admirers have called him “a voice of the people.” To Lindsay, he’s just Dad.
Established in 1973, Huntington’s Cinema Arts Centre (cinemaartscentre.org) seeks to bring the best of cinematic artistry to Long Island and use the power of film to expand the awareness and consciousness of our community. LI’s premiere not-for-profit, viewer-supported independent cinema presents a wide array of films that are often accompanied by discussions and guest speakers.
Founded in the late 1960s, the Folk Music Society of Huntington (fmsh.org) is a volunteer-led nonprofit organization. It co-presents the monthly Hard Luck Café concert series and the twice-monthly NorthShore Original Open Mic (NOOM) with the Cinema Arts Centre on Wednesday nights in its Sky Room, as well as a monthly folk jam & sing-along at the South Huntington Public Library.
