
Each year the Lafayette Breakfast Optimist Club holds its annual Fat Tuesday Dinner Party and Fund Raiser for Teacher Grants. The event held on (or close to) Mardi Gras night features a silent auction live traditional Dixieland and jazz music with Al Jones and the Riverboat Ramblers a Mardi Gras costume contest a raffle and a Balloon Wall and Wheel of Optimism with great prizes amazing appetizers including oysters and alligator a full authentic Southern Cajun Dinner and lots of hijinks! Auction items solicited by members from the community have included hot air balloon rides Indy Car Experiences lots of sports memorabilia sky diving packages vacation packages to name a few We have lots of community support for the event: Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski and West Lafayette Mayor Erin Easter and several local officials regularly attend. The State Superintendent of Education and several state representatives have joined us for the evening along with local and state “royalty” like the Indy 500 princesses who come to volunteer each year. Many of the teacher grant winners also attend.
