Bring your fashion ideas to life! This exciting hands-on class introduces young designers to the fundamentals of fashion design, from sketching original concepts to sewing wearable garments. Perfect for beginners and those ready to build on their skills, this course blends artistic expression with technical skills in a fun, supportive environment.
Students will explore fashion illustration, learn essential sewing techniques (both hand and machine), and experiment with garment construction. Each participant will create a fashion design binder to collect their sketches and fabric samples while working on a unique project to showcase their new skills.
What You’ll Learn:
- Fashion Illustration: Master the basics of drawing the 10-head fashion figure, fabric textures, and garment details.
- Sewing Skills: Learn both hand and machine sewing techniques, including straight stitches, zigzag stitches, buttonholes, and how to install zippers.
- Garment Construction: Explore and practice basic sewing techniques including different seams (flat-felled, French, etc) as you create your own clothing based on store bought patterns.
- Fabric Fundamentals: Discover different fabrics and how to choose the right materials for your designs.
- Design Principles: Explore color theory, silhouette, line, shape, and texture to create visually striking designs.
