About this Event
Join Medal of Honor recipient Dr. Valerie Steele, dubbed “the Freud of Fashion” by critic Suzy Menkes, for an exploration of her current exhibition Dress, Dreams, and Desire: Fashion and Psychoanalysis at The Museum at FIT. In her curation, Steele draws on key psychoanalytic concepts about the body, sexuality, and the unconscious to interpret almost one hundred items of dress by designers including John Galliano for Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Yohji Yamamoto, and more. Dr. Valerie Steele is director and chief curator of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she has organized more than twenty-five exhibitions since 1997.
Books will be available for purchase. “Analyzed" Style is highly encouraged!
