Join Rupert Loch on this one day bushcraft fire lighting course which will cover the science of fire and the practical application of how to create it. We will be covering:Firesteels, initially with cotton wool but to include other materials for example birch bark and/or pine resin.
Tinder forage (identification of tree/wood species) and feathersticks (how to use a knife safely and create a featherstick). The principle of progression of materials to ensure success with establishing a fire.
Firelays, the right way!
Other ignition sources: Traditional flint and steel, chemicals and the fire piston.
Using a ‘nest’ of gathered natural materials for smouldering ignition sources.
Culminating with the use of bow drills.
Please note that due to the nature of this course, we don't feel its suitable to under 16 year olds. Under 18's must be accompanied by a participating adult.
