For over a decade, The Proletariat has been more than a space. It has been a living, breathing expression of creative community. This is a somewhat unusual closing, because it is not an ending in the traditional sense. In June, we will reopen as a new business, guided by the same hands and the same deep commitment to the arts community. The story is continuing, but like all meaningful transformations, we need to pause and honor the chapter that came before.
TBH this moment is hitting us harder than we expected. The name Proletariat has always carried its own truth: this place was created by the people and for the people. Every brushstroke hung on these walls, every lyric shared from the stage, every poem, conversation, exhibition, lecture, performance, and gathering helped shape what this space became.
Visual artists trusted us with their work. Musicians and poets filled the room with sound and soul. So many of you found your voice here and in doing so, helped others find theirs. While the next chapter will carry the same stewardship, it will be different. It will look different. It will feel different. Growth always does.
Before we turn the page, we want to celebrate what has been created together. Join us for our final day as The Proletariat where we gather to honor a decade of art, connection, risk-taking, friendship, and grassroots magic.
This is not goodbye. It is gratitude. It is reflection. It is the deep breath before the next beginning.
