Meet our board, find out ways to get involved and learn about our project to start gathering the histories about local Filipinos in San Antonio. This is an event of the San Antonio (43rd) chapter of the nonprofit organization Filipino American National Historical Society, the organization that created Filipino American History Month and provided ways for all of us to connect to our history, our heritage and our culture! Let us help build continuity with this legacy, the ancestors that helped build our community and find out about the connections between the ground breaking work and Filipino American history with individuals now living in San Antonio!
On building continuity - Did you know that a retired Philippine ambassador who was also a seasonal farmworker in Delano around the time union organizer Larry Itliong started the grape strike retired in and resides in San Antonio? Did you know that one one of the FANHS San Antonio board members is mentioned in the Filipino American History Studies Encyclopedia and was involved in early celebrations of Filipino American History Month?
On collecting local histories of Filipinos - We need your help to fill in the gaps! Our board members and members are growing to include more individuals who grew up in San Antonio! Let's do this together, kapwa style and respectful to the culture and values that started FANHS and Filipino American History Month! (No political leveraging please.)
