For all ages! Limited to 15 participantsJoin us at BAM for a sumi painting workshop with artist Hiroko Nagatomo. Nagatomo will teach participants how to use sumi brushes and other Japanese painting materials, and demonstrate a variety of art-making techniques. Children 7 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Both English and Japanese language instruction will be available.
This workshop has been developed alongside the Washi Transformed: New Expressions in Japanese Paper exhibition, featuring 9 contemporary artists who have pushed washi beyond its traditional uses to create highly textured two-dimensional works, expressive sculptures, and dramatic installations.
Regular museum admission + $4 materials fee per participant
