Enjoy a free hands-on art making adventure for children and their families. For this program, we'll celebrate the Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) with the theme: Touch This Art! Participate in-person or watch a pre-recorded video!
Designed by Rishika Kartik, this artmaking activity will engage participants of all ages in abstract art, Clyfford Still’s painting technique, and the multisensory process of painting. Using textured paints, families will examine the symbolic meaning behind various colors and textures. People will then have the opportunity to create a “STILL life” by rendering a physical object in an abstract way. In doing so, participants will look at objects as not what they are, but as possibilities of what they could be. To guide their compositions, participants will learn the core elements of art, principles of design, and unconventional painting techniques.
Watch the pre-recorded video on YouTube, the Still Life Blog, or our other social media channels, available at 10:30 a.m. on July 24. Or, join us in the forecourt outside the Clyfford Still Museum at 10:30 a.m. on July 24 for a free, hands-on, in-person workshop.

About Rishika Kartik
Rishika Kartik is a High School Junior at St. Mary’s Academy in Colorado. A “creative activist,” Rishika is committed to using art as a catalyst for justice, equality, and change. Over the last three years, she has worked with the teachers of students with visual impairment across different school districts in Colorado, Colorado Center for the Blind, Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind, Anchor Center for the Blind, and Braille Institute to create accessible art classes for students who are blind and visually impaired.
In January of 2020, she became the youngest President of the Colorado Tactile Art Club (TAC) under the mentorship of Ann Cunningham and conducts monthly art workshops to create opportunities for blind students to explore their imagination and make accessible art. Rishika has been conducting TAC meetings virtually since April of last year, exploring a new art form and medium each month. Inspired by this, she founded a project called “Vision of the Artist’s Soul” (VAS) and is the youngest ever recipient of the 2020 Arts-In-Society Grant. As part of the grant project, Rishika has conducted 49 tactile art workshops for students who are blind or have low vision so far and has had total workshop participation of 744 students from across the country. If you are interested, Rishika’s blog has all the fun projects the students have worked on in the last year.
