About this Event
Families are invited to come into the park and make a ‘journey stick’. This is an Aboriginal practice to remember and retell your forest bathing journey. For the first part of this event, you will be walking around the park, looking for nature objects like leaves, feathers and sticks that represent your feelings, thoughts and emotions as well as reminding you of the path that you've taken. Then we head to the community room next to the cafe to warm up and spend time together really noticing these objects using your sense of touch, smell, sight and sound, before tying the objects to a stick to remember this moment.
We have been leading Japanese nature events called forest bathing, also known as shinrin-yoku, for the last 2 years. This is a practice that involves spending mindful time in a wooded green space to improve overall well-being.
Forest bathing has been scientifically proven to reduce stress, boost the immune system, and enhance mental clarity. It's a wonderful opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and find peace in the tranquility of nature.
So come and join us at Victoria Park for this immersive experience. We meet at the park benches by cafe in the park (see picture) at 2.15pm for a 2.30pm start.
This event is suitable for families with small children, who must be fully supervised by a responsible adult. Please do not bring hot drinks into this event to avoid scalding - why not chat to us in the cafe afterwards about how it went?
Forest bathing is an all weather event - there will be no rain check!
