Experience the benefits of “forest bathing,” or spending time in nature for its amazing health benefits! Even just a few minutes outside can significantly improve your overall health and boost your mood!Purdue Extension will provide activities to encourage families to engage with nature. These programs will highlight Shirley Heinze properties where families can explore oak savannah and prairie habitats with guides and other families.
Family Nature Play Dates will be held the second and fourth Thursdays July-October from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. CT. Families can drop in any time between 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
This program will target families with youth ages 3-7, but other ages are welcome.
No person under 18 will be admitted without an adult.
We recommend wearing closed-toed shoes and socks, long pants, sunscreen/hats/sunglasses and bug spray. We will be on the lookout for poison ivy and checking for ticks.
The second Thursdays on July 11, August 8, September 12, and October 10 will be held at Ivanhoe South Nature Preserve. Address: 750 Colfax St, Gary, IN 46406. There is primarily street parking.
The fourth Thursdays on July 25, August 22, September 26 and October 24 will be held at Cressmoor Prairie Nature Preserve. Parking will be at 615 W 40th Ave, Hobart, IN 46342.
