About this Event
Family-Friendly Bee Walk 🐝
Join Friends of Rabbit Hill and Gwent Wildlife Trust for a fun and educational bee walk starting at Duffryn Allotments! This event is perfect for families wanting to learn more about bumblebees and their vital role in our ecosystem. Our expert guide will take you on a relaxed stroll, pointing out different types of bees and their habitats along the way.
Event start and end time will be confirmed nearer the date - currently we estimate the event will start at 10am and finish by 12pm.
This walk is part of the BeeWalk initiative, a national recording scheme run by the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. BeeWalk helps monitor bumblebee populations across the UK by recording sightings and tracking changes in abundance. Volunteers play a key role in identifying and counting bumblebees along set routes each month from March to October.
Kids and adults will enjoy getting up close to these fascinating creatures, while discovering the importance of bumblebees and how their populations are affected by land use and climate change.
This is a fantastic half-term activity for all ages, focused on monitoring and identifying bee populations in your local area.
Want to make a difference? If you’re interested in becoming a BeeWalker, all you need is some basic identification knowledge, a few hours each month, and a walk of 1 to 2 km along a fixed route. Your sightings will contribute to vital long-term monitoring of bumblebee populations!
Don’t miss out on this unique chance to learn, explore, and support a crucial conservation effort! 🌸
