The history of Batik can be traced from its origins in Indonesia to Africa and the Caribbean. This centuries-old process formed the foundation for the brightly colored, patterned African textiles that are used in clothing and other products today. The Batik process is highlighted on the island of St. Kitts where this traditional Southeast Asian art form has been commercialized since 1976.Participants will design their own tropically-inspired Batik fabric print. It can be used as a wall hanging, decoration for clothing or to cover a personal item. A variety of materials will be used, including fabric, acrylic paint, and stencils. This workshop will be led by Sheryl M. Brodie, a visual artist, painter, art educator, and founder of Quietgirlartful, LLC.
