What’s “Normal”? Understanding Development Through the Ages

Part Two of the Foothills Family Education Series
📍 Foothills School | 601 S. 9th St, Boise
📅 January 21, 2026, from 4:00pm - 6:00pm

What does “normal” really look like at each stage of childhood and adolescence? Is there even such a thing? Join us for an insightful evening exploring the emotional, social, and cognitive shifts that shape children from early childhood through the teenage years.

This in-person session brings together educators and child development specialists to offer grounded, age-specific insights from preschool through high school. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of what children need most at each stage, and how to respond with greater clarity, patience, and encouragement.

Whether you're navigating toddlerhood or the teenage years (or both), this conversation is designed to support parents, guardians, and caregivers who want to better understand the arc of growing up.

Agenda:

  • 3:45 pm - Arrival and Childcare Check-In
  • 4:00 pm - Family Education Session Starts
  • 5:00 - 5:15 pm - Brief break and transition to classrooms for Move-Up meetings
  • 5:15 - 6:00 pm - Move-Up Meetings in classrooms with teachers

🧠 Topics include:
• What’s developmentally expected (and what’s not)
• How to support mental health, identity, and independence
• Navigating peer pressure, emotional changes, and transitions
• The power of showing up with curiosity

👧 Childcare will be available onsite from 4:00–6:00 p.m. for children ages 3 to 12.
🍎 Snacks will be provided for both children and adults.
📚 After the session, we’ll open classrooms for Move-Up Meetings so parents and guardians can hear directly from our faculty about what to expect in the grade their child will enter next year.

Come connect with others who are asking the same questions and walk away with greater insight and a little more peace of mind.
