Family Day of Service: Blast Off with Books 2023!

For 104 years, Assistance League® of Los Angeles (“the League”) has improved the lives of underserved, foster, and homeless children in our community, now helping 22,000 children annually.

We invite YOU to join our Family Day of Service: Blast Off with Books, annual book drive, to promote literacy in our community!

This FREE family-friendly volunteer event will help us provide over 11,000 books and 500 bookmarks for our Foster Children Resource Center, Operation School Bell, and Preschool Learning Center programs.

You can support virtually before February 25th by:

• Shopping our Amazon Wishlist online. Books will be shipped directly to the League. If you would like us to send an acknowledgement letter please include your name, email address, and home address under your donations Gift Message.

• Donating Funds online to Family Day of Service: Blast Off with Books. Our programs will use these funds to purchase books throughout the year.

• Making bookmarks using template and sending them to Assistance League of Los Angeles, Attn: Blast Off with Books, 6640 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90028.

You can support in person on Saturday, February 25th from 10:00am-1:00pm by:

• Dropping off NEW children's books in-person to 6640 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90028. We are most in need of: Bilingual books for preschoolers to high schoolers (Spanish/English), Early reader/picture books for infants to 2nd graders, Chapter books for 3rd to 5th graders, Leisure reading books for high schoolers and young adults. PLEASE NOTE: We cannot use textbooks, religious, adult, or library books.

• Volunteering! We need volunteers of all ages to help sort and organize book donations OR you can help us make 500 bookmarks. All volunteers must register through Eventbrite. Please review our COVID-19 policy below.

PLEASE NOTE: Items collected during this event will only be distributed to Assistance League of Los Angeles programs.

***COVID-19 Policy***

Effective September 1, 2022, all members and volunteers who have in-person contact with other members, volunteers and/or guests should be fully vaccinated. All unvaccinated guests are required to wear masks over the nose and mouth and under the chin. Medical grade surgical masks or respirators(e.g. N95 or KN95) are recommended. Masks are available upon request.

• Upon entering the lot, let attendant know you are parking for Assistance League of LA. If an attendant is not present, please continue to park. Exit the lot on foot, make a right on Selma Ave. and walk towards Cassil Pl. Walk on Cassil until Sunset Blvd. Cross Sunset Blvd. and make a right on Sunset. Walk a few feet to 6640 Sunset Blvd.
