About this Event
A study conducted in 2013 reported that as many as 400,000 people were dying each year from preventable medical errors. In 2016 a study by Dr. Martin Makary, professor of surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, observed that medical error was the third leading cause of death in the United States.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION & ACTIVITIES
On March 27th and 28th, 2025, professional patient advocates, caregivers and community members will spend two days learning about patient safety, advocacy and how to be a prepared patient and support person for those they care about. This two-day program will have expert leaders to speak about preparing as a patient by preparing questions, medical history, Medic*tion lists, as well as experiential learning to prepare as an advocate or caregiver for others. Topics include advance directives, infection prevention, communication, recognizing your own bias and much more.
