About this Event
This outdoor fun weekend for families at the Harriman Outdoor Center is filled with opportunities to camp, hike, paddle as well as other activities. Breakneck pond offers dedicated spaces for swimming, sunbathing, paddling, fishing or just relaxing to watch the sunset. If you would like to go fishing, please bring your own tackle and obtain a NY fishing license if necessary. Paddlers of all levels are welcome, but must be comfortable swimming with a life jacket in deep water.
At night we will enjoy a group campfire at the campsite. Feel free to bring your favorite snacks, including s'mores, to enjoy around the campfire. Optional meals may be purchased from the dining hall for a totally care-free weekend, or you may bring your own food to cook on a fire ring that is available in the campsite. We will be camping in the Beaver Brook Shelters. Each shelter can hold a 4 person tent for your family which can be borrowed with advance request to the camp office. A secure bearbox for overnight food storage is available and required. Modern bathhouses with hot showers and flush toilets are nearby.
This event is led by the chapter's Harriman Program Committee volunteer leaders. Paddling equipment, personal flotation devices and yoga mats are available at the camp free of charge and courtesy of the NY-North Jersey AMC chapter. The camp is accessible by public transportation.
