"Shirley" is a biographical drama film that explores the life of Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Congress, and her groundbreaking 1972 presidential campaign." This film showcases her struggles and achievements in her respective field—politics. Her story serves as an important cultural narrative that contributes to the understanding of women's roles in history and society.
An open discussion after the movie will lead into attendees leaving feeling empoweerd as well as sharing resources that will help shelter residents navigate through the housing process and other resources that can assist in transitioning back into the community through support of the Family Action Board, The Adelaide Reign Hope Foundation and other nonprofits, advocates and well wishers.
