About this Event

Learn how to make a lovely star willow lantern with your family – make one to take home.

Then take part in our Fishwives Causeway winter light parade the following Saturday.

Professional basket weaver Katie Warner will provide the materials and lead families through the stages of building a willow star lantern. This will take the full day from 10am till 4pm.

Teas and coffees will be provided – please bring along some lunch.

Your lantern will then need to dry overnight, and you’ll be able to collect it the following day.

This lantern is then yours to keep – however, these lanterns are being made for the purposes of leading off our Fishwives Causeway winter parade on 1 February, and we would expect anyone making the lanterns to bring them along to this event from 5.30pm on 1 February.

More about the Fishwives Causeway winter light parade

The parade will process through Fishwives Causeway from Mountcastle to Portobello on Saturday 1 February from 5.30pm – 7pm. This will be a fun, family-friendly parade to raise awareness of this lesser known cycle and pedestrian route in the local area, and to call for better signage, and better active travel routes in Edinburgh more generally.

There will be music and refreshments at the end of the walk.

Cost

In order to re-coop some of the costs for the lanterns, we are asking for a suggested donation of £20 for each lantern. However, this can be waived if you are unable to afford it (use the ticket option for Family ticket – no donation)

Each ticket is for one adult and up to two children.

PLEASE NOTE THERE IS ONLY SPACE FOR 15 FAMILIES. IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO MAKE THE EVENT PLEASE CANCEL YOUR TICKET TO FREE UP SPACE FOR OTHERS.

This workshop is organised by Porty Community Energy who are enabling people to walk, cycle and bus more to and from the local area in order to reduce their carbon footprint and tackle climate change.
