Embodying the organization’s belief that food is love the Vargas mural will anchor the nonprofit’s $51.5 million campus expansion which will double facility size and triple meal production capacity.
Robert Vargas a Boyle Heights native and cultural icon was introduced to Project Angel Food by actor and activist Edward James Olmos last June. Vargas whose Mexican American heritage reflects the nearly half of Project Angel Food’s clients who identify as Latino represents a powerful cultural bridge to the community the nonprofit serves.
“Robert’s art rises from the heart of Los Angeles and speaks directly to the soul of our mission” said Richard Ayoub CEO of Project Angel Food. “As we expand—doubling our kitchen and tripling our meal production—his mural will remind everyone that while Los Angeles is a city of millions we remain a community that cares and our collective compassion has the power to heal.”
