Project Angel Food is proud to announce that internationally renowned muralist Robert Vargas will begin painting a three-story tribute mural on the building of the organization’s Vine Street headquarters at 922 Vine Street beginning Thursday August 14 at 10:30 a.m. The public artwork will emerge daily in real time from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm through Wednesday August 27 providing Angelenos a rare chance to witness a master muralist at work.
Celebrating neighbors helping neighbors the mural will transform the building’s south façade into a powerful symbol of unity community and love depicting the diverse staff and countless volunteers who serve Project Angel Food’s 7157 clients battling critical illness. Embodying the organization’s belief that food is love the Vargas mural will anchor the nonprofit’s $51.5 million campus expansion which will double facility size and triple meal production capacity.
Robert Vargas a Boyle Heights native and cultural icon was introduced to Project Angel Food by actor and activist Edward James Olmos last June. Vargas whose Mexican American heritage reflects the nearly half of Project Angel Food’s clients who identify as Latino represents a powerful cultural bridge to the community the nonprofit serves.
“Robert’s art rises from the heart of Los Angeles and speaks directly to the soul of our mission” said Richard Ayoub CEO of Project Angel Food. “As we expand—doubling our kitchen and tripling our meal production—his mural will remind everyone that while Los Angeles is a city of millions we remain a community that cares and our collective compassion has the power to heal.”

·  Daily Live-Painting: Thursday August 14 to Wednesday August 27 ― 10:30 am to 3:30 pm
