About this Event
Sierra Club Members and supporters join Science Museum staff for a morning of sprucing up the museum's outdoors and gardens to get ready for the spring. Some of the projects we'll be working on include:
- Trim the red osier dogwoods around the parking garage and plaza.
- Cut invasive plants competing with native plants on the Protopath.
- Clean up area were work has been done.
There will be educational activities and information at the Sierra Club table located in the Rotunda.
FoJG Sierra Club has scheduled the morning of Saturday March 15,2025 to volunteer with fellow Sierra members and supporters to help with the project's mission. If you have some gardening experience or just want to help in other chores, please register to join. We encourage all Sierra Club members from across VA to come join us and spend a morning volunteering and enjoying the museum for the afternoon.
The Science Museum has offered free entrance to the museum in the afternoon for those volunteers who sign up and complete the 3 hours of volunteering. A light lunch will be provided after the project is over at 12.
Please indicate when you check in at the table the day of the event if you are an active member of Sierra Club or a supporter.
The Green at the Science Museum of Virginia serves as a welcoming public park that will implement natural solutions to address the impacts of climate change in an urban setting. This district suffers from one of the lowest levels of urban tree cover in Richmond. Native trees and plants will play a key role in achieving The Green’s design goals and desired environmental and health benefits. The Green has reclaimed two acres of asphalt parking and transformed historic Broad Street Station’s front acreage into a 7-acre public green space.
