This is the Fall Season of Dancing for Northern Michigan Ecstatic Dance in Traverse City. We meet the First and Third Tuesday of every month from 6:06PM-8:08PM
Sept 3 is about DANCE as PRAYER – Courtney Miller will Host. It will include a ceremonial beginning with smudge and an appreciation of our bodies as a channel for divine energy. There may also be some instructional group dancing before the free-form portion.
September 17 is about FULLNESS – Tracey Barilleaux will host. Come dance with the fullness of your life, and express whatever emotions may be feeling “full” for you. We’ll also be honoring the Full Moon & Lunar Eclipse as they occur this night at 10:34pm and we enter the gateway of the Autumn Equinox. What feels full for you? The fullness of our lives, our bodies, the moon and the season all come to play tonight.
***The remaining dances will be hosted by Jeanie Williams***
October 1 is about THE DESCENT – it is a time for connection with the Earth as soil, root, and going down and in.
October 15 is about GOING LONG – we will do a 90 minute dance set, in the nearly full moon. It will be incredible to get an extra long time to dance with the energies for out last outdoor dance of the year.
***November dances will be indoors. GT Circuit, 225 W 14th St, TC***
November 5 is ELECTION DAY– How can we feel supported on the cusp of leadership change in our nation? One way is to get together and dance! Playlist will include some political themes, critiquing it all. Even if we don't like it, it is still important to vote.
November 15 is about THE VILLAGE – we will endeavor to create a village that everyone wants to be part of. This will be an ecstatic dance with an awareness of the whole.
***
Each time we gather we begin by relaxing into our bodies and pausing to allow our full selves to arrive. Then we explore the theme in various ways - sharing, moving, playing - to prime ourselves for expression and weave our group together.
Dance is the main event. The hour-long playlist will carry you through an experience of gradual opening, energy building, transformation, release, integration, and rest.
The dance is for free-form expression of however you are in the moment. We practice letting go and letting come, in a consent-based space.
When the music is finished there will be time for optional sharing about anything that happened during the dance. Then we close and return to our lives, with more attunement to our bodies and ourselves.
Any form of dancing or movement is allowed as long as it is safe for everyone. All people of all sizes, types, and ages welcome.
Registration not required.
Pay as able $10-20 for each dance. Venmo @JStar-Williams or cash at the dance. A lot goes into the creation of this experience and everyone's contribution is needed to keep it going.
The dance is OUTDOORS behind the building.
Things to consider bringing:
**Water - very important!
**Clothing to keep you comfortable - temp changes as the day wanes, and it can be hot in mid-summer
**A blanket or mat to be on - to give a little comfort on the ground
**Shoes, I prefer soft-soles so I can feel the ground. Some go without shoes (at their own risk)
**Long pants or socks - if grasses and plants can be pokey to you
**A light for navigation in late September and October.
**If you feel moved to do so: something to share: poem, song, snack, a beautiful item, rattle, etc.
Take care of yourself. You are responsible for your well-being.
Check in with yourself often to make sure everything you are doing feels good to you. It can be easy to get overwhelmed or follow the group when you really would be more comfortable with something else. It is always ok to do something different if it will feel more supportive for you. Take responsibility for your experience, including by letting Jeanie know if you have a suggestion or need support around something.
