· And for older registrants (9-11 yrs) we have woodworking sessions during Wednesday’s program. And a concurrent program during the entire 4.5 hrs to support older learners incl. survival skills, science curriculum links and experiments and more (ideal group size 8 or more students).
· Note: Sunday Woodworking workshops will be held on Sunday, October 19 and October 26th in the afternoon from 2-4 pm. For teenagers aged 13-18 yrs (adults welcome too). Instructor: Simon Harris of J&S Woods, Georgetown is a young chainsaw artist, craftsman and arborist. At just 21 years old his fun, creative energy will inspire teenagers who’ll enjoy making wooden projects using simple hand tools. Registration opens after Fri., Sep. 19th, noon.
For families with homeschooled children or kids who they wish to have learning in nature one day a week. Sign them up for an Enrichment Program for 12 weeks, Wed. 10:00am-2:30pm, Sep 24th – Dec 10th, 2025.
- They will have fun making friends while learning science, literacy, math, art, nature care and more – while experiencing the changes in the seasons. Instructors engage children aged 4-11 years in activities to better understand the natural world and build critical thinking, curiosity and motor skills. Spring parent comment: “We look forward to having our son return next season, he learned so much!”
- Drop your kids off using WPEC’s entrance at Mary Street, Norval in the Town of Halton Hills to explore and investigate the Ecology Centre’s natural ravine features. Parents do not need to stay (but can if that is best for their lifestyle).
- Autumn is a wonderful time to learn about seasonal changes, habitats and survival strategies of animals, birds and plants, and how to care for our life sustaining planet, Mother Earth. Learning and playing outdoors in this program will be a transformational life experience for your children. We will engage in the following (see daily schedule below): nature art/crafts, rope activities (knot tying), scavenger hunt, discovery walks and tracking, group games and seasonal play, science experiments, environmental education, hands-on learning activities, journaling and reflection, sharing stories, gardening for food and wildlife, fireside luncheon, playful learning about renewable energy, learning about our ecological footprints and actions (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rethink). A detailed agenda will be provided to registered parents. Trained instructors will teach your children by engaging them in experiential learning through nature exploration and discovery to better understand the natural world and build critical thinking, curiosity and motor skills.
- Delivered in a mixed age group dynamic to allow support to families with more than one child, while delivering programming that engages all ages.
- Kids bring snacks and a lunch for our food breaks, and refillable water bottles. Garden gloves, rubber boots and raincoats on rainy days, and appropriate weather clothing.
- This exceptional 12-week program is $504.00 for the first child and $478.80 for each additional sibling (5% discount). We offer a competitive price at just $8.80-9.30/hr with quality programming and small group setting. And parents, if needed we can accept your child(ren) for extended hours from 9:30 am – 3:00 pm for an additional $9. Register by Sept. 12th for an additional discount of 5% on the first child too for the 12 weeks (T-shirt included, after hours excluded).
- GREAT News for parents: we have a yoga program running biweekly on Sundays from 2:00 - 3:00 pm starting on Sep. 7th so you also have a chance to enjoy nature while doing self-care activities ($5/session). Week 1-7: Program A - Autumn, Nature’s Colours
Week 1 (9.24): Fall food gardens, and more.
Week 2 (10.01): River habitat discovery and Fall Equinox.
Week 3 (10.08): Local birds, World Migratory Bird Day.
Week 4 (10.15): Explore water habitats with pond critters.
Week 5 (10.22): Tracking animals and their homes.
Week 6 (10.29): Fall harvest and animals get ready for winter.
Week 7-12: Program B - Getting Ready for Winter
Week 7 (11.04): Forest bathing and habitats.
Week 8 (11.11): Who goes where in the fall?
Week 9 (11.18): Our footprints on Mother Earth.
Week 10 (11.25): Exploring habitats and lifecycles.
Week 11 (12.03): Survival strategies: animals and us in nature.
Week 12 (12.10): Finding signs of life in winter
Tentative schedule:- Daily themed activities include instructional activities with exciting discovery, exploration, hands-on learning, park and nature care, nature crafts, learning games, etc. All outdoors!
Daily Agenda per week, focus on daily themes with 3 key Units:
10:00 - 10:20 am Arrival, settling activities, orientation.
10:20 - 11:00 am Unit 1 (incl daily topic, nature exploration walks)
11:00 - 11:20 am Snack and recess
11:20 - 12:00 pm Unit 2 (incl. environmental ed., nature crafting)
12:00 - 1:00 pm Fireside luncheon including collecting firewood
1:00 - 1:45 pm Unit 3 (incl. science experiments, seasonal play)
1:45 - 2:30 pm Focused learning (incl gardening, learning-linked games)
