This fall, the Mary S. Biesecker Public Library is excited to host a Fall History Speaker Series. Join us on the first Thursday of each month for a series of FREE lectures on local history and genealogy! On October 2nd, the Speaker Series kicks off with a living history presentation from Reverend Dr. Joseph Beer of Stoystown. Reverend Beer will present in character as Frederick Goeb, the German immigrant who printed the first Bible west of the Alleghenies, and provide listeners with an informative and entertaining look at the early history of Somerset County.
On November 6th, the Library welcomes Pittsburgh genealogist Kate Townsend for her presentation “Lessons Learned: A Cautionary Tale of Common Genealogical Mistakes.” In this lecture, Kate uses her own experiences to explore mistakes that people make in researching their family history, and easy ways to avoid finding incorrect or misleading information about your family tree.
On December 4th, Biesecker Library Communications Assistant Christopher Saunders will present a lecture on the History of Art in Somerset County. Chris’s lecture will focus on Lila B. Hetzel, a famous artist who cofounded the Biesecker Library, along with her role in the Somerset Art School and other famous artists who worked and lived in Somerset County.
All of these lectures are free and open to the public. To sign up, call the Biesecker Library at 814-445-4011 or use our online form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSezQ8rxWtZzY85lOszMPC16InKcwExjeLTsoCyasri5yulgkQ/viewform
