Come join us for the inaugural Fall Herbarium Day!Ever wondered how botanists collect, identify, and preserve plants for scientific study? Join Dr. Mac Alford and other USM botanists for a hands-on look into the world of herbaria and plant research!
Weather permitting, we’ll begin with a guided plant walk to demonstrate how specimens are collected in the field. Then, we’ll head indoors to follow those specimens through the entire process — from pressing the plants to recording field notes, mounting our specimens, and even digitizing them for long-term scientific storage and research.
This is a great event for gardeners, hikers, students, naturalists, families, and anyone who loves learning about our local flora.
No experience necessary — just curiosity!
