About this Event
Shinrin-yoku- is a Japanese term translated to mean "forest bathing" or "absorbing the forest atmosphere".
Spending time in nature has been shown to reduce stress, lower blood pressure and improve feelings of happiness, among other benefits. Incorporating the healing modalities of mindfulness, meditation and nature immersion Vanessa Heller, a certified forest therapy guide with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy, will lead this immersive practice focused on helping us reconnect with our environment and ourselves. Guided seated and walking meditation will be incorporated. This program is open to adults only.
**Rain date November 17th
Your guide: Vanessa is a licensed clinical social worker with over two decades of experience and a born and bred New Yorker. She is a certified forest therapy (bathing) guide with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. Her spiritual path began began many years ago and continues to evolve by following different teachers, practicing yoga, meditation, mindfulness, and engaging in her own healing work. Vanessa's excited to share her passion for nature and the outdoors as a tool for healing and self-discovery. Whether in an urban jungle or out in the woods, nature is always the best temple.
How to find us: The group will meet at the 254th Street entrance to Riverdale Park, in the small parking lot on the corner of Pallisades Ave and W. 254th Street. It's very short walk up from the Riverdale stop of the MetroNorth Hudson Line and about a 10 min walk down the hill from the corner of Riverdale Ave and W. 254th Street, where the local Bx10 and 7 buses stop or the BxM1 and 2, express buses from Manhattan.
There is a small parking lot at entrance to the park where we will be meeting. If driving or taking a ride share/cab, please put the corner of 254th Street and Pallisades Ave into the GPS.
What to bring: Something to sit on for the seated portions of our walk. Riverdale park is nestled in the woods so the ground is dirt, not grass. A yoga mat might add comfort. *Dress in layers. Prepare for colder temps than forecasted as it can often feel colder than the outside temperature when moving slowly. Bring a water bottle and snacks.
