Experience the vibrant sounds of Europe brought to life in this intimate evening performance at the Morton Museum, featuring internationally acclaimed musicians Karen Ashbrook and Paul Oorts.
In this unique program, Karen and Paul will guide listeners through a musical journey across the cultural crossroads of Europe, blending the lively rhythms of Celtic reels, the lyrical beauty of French waltzes, and the rich traditions of Flemish folk music. With each piece, they share not only their virtuosity, but also the deep stories and histories woven into these timeless melodies.
Karen Ashbrook, a pioneer in the revival of the hammered dulcimer, and her husband, Belgian-born multi-instrumentalist Paul Oorts, have been performing together for nearly 30 years. Their “exquisitely arranged collaborations” (Washington Post) and “uncommon enthusiasm, grace, and imagination” (De Morgen, Belgium) have delighted audiences around the world.
This hour-long concert will be followed by a 30-minute reception with light refreshments and an opportunity to meet the performers. Join us for an evening of joyful music, cultural connection, and meaningful conversation in the museum’s warm and historic setting.
