Meet the instructor, Lydia Sargent! Lydia was born in Gastonia and has lived there her entire life. After graduating from UNCG in 1973, she taught third and fourth grade in Gaston County for 34 years. After retiring in 2008, Lydia continued working in the school system as an interim and substitute teacher. She also worked at Gaston College for 5 years as a GED Examiner. Lydia's interest in jewelry led her to taking classes at Michael’s on jewelry making. She has continued to learn the art of jewelry making and has given away many pieces of jewelry to family and friends. Lydia finds it very enjoyable to create something of beauty for people to wear. You can find Lydia’s work displayed at the Southern Arts Society in Kings Mountain, Wild and Whimsey in Gastonia, and coming soon to the Cleveland County Arts Council. In addition, Lydia has also been commissioned to make a necklace, bracelet, and earrings for the State President of Alpha DeltaKappa.
