Discover how to plant bulbs now for a vibrant, colorful spring! In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to select healthy bulbs, prepare soil, and choose ideal planting locations for a variety of spring-blooming flowers such as tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths. The class will cover planting depth, spacing, and care tips to ensure strong growth and lasting blooms when warmer weather arrives. Perfect for gardeners of all experience levels!
Audience Target: All Ages, parent supervision required for participants under 10. Ideal for anyone interested in planting bulbs for a happier and more vibrant spring garden.
Format: Classroom Workshop
Learning Outcomes:
* Identify Suitable Bulbs: Participants will be able to identify at least three types of spring-blooming bulbs (e.g., tulips, daffodils, crocuses) that are best planted in the fall for our climate zone.
* Demonstrate Proper Planting Techniques: Participants will demonstrate the correct method for planting bulbs, including selecting location, depth, spacing, and soil preparation to ensure healthy spring growth.
* Apply Seasonal Timing and Care Practices: Participants will learn the ideal planting time, watering, and mulching practices for fall-planted bulbs to optimize overwintering and bloom success.
* Design a Bloom Sequence Plan: Participants will create a simple planting plan that staggers bloom times for continuous color throughout the spring season.
Fee: $25, $15 for members – (Includes materials, instruction and admission to the Garden)

About the Instructor
Chad Shelby has been studying Horticulture since 2018. He completed his A.A.S. in Horticulture and is currently pursuing his B.S. in Agriculture Education. He has been the project manager for several pro bono projects, specifically ones that involve Non-Profits like the C.A.R.E Clinic and St. John’s Episcopal Church. His work includes The Meditation Garden at the C.A.R.E. Clinic, Community Patriot Arts Connection Veteran’s Garden, and building the Daylily Garden at Cape Fear Botanical Garden.
