Fall in Missouri is a season worth celebrating, and there’s no better place to do it than at Colonial Gardens in Blue Springs! We’re more than just a garden center — we’re a community destination where plants, food, and experiences come together. As a working farm, nursery, and event space, we’re dedicated to connecting people to agriculture, education, and the beauty of nature.

This September, we invite you to join us for our Apple Festival, a family-friendly event packed with activities, entertainment, and of course — everything apple!


🍏 Festival Highlights

Experience a weekend full of seasonal fun:

  • Alpaca Tours 🦙 – Meet and learn about these gentle animals while exploring their habitat.
  • Military Vehicle Rides – Hop in for a unique ride the whole family will remember.
  • Apple Picking – Stroll our orchard and fill a bag with crisp, fresh apples straight from the tree.
  • Fresh U-Cut Flowers – Pick your own bouquet from our vibrant flower fields.
  • Sunn Hemp Maze – Get lost wandeing through our 8 foot tall sunn hemp maze.
  • Annual Apple Bake-Off – Taste, judge, or compete in our friendly apple-themed baking competition.

Whether you’re here for a day of farm activities, to enjoy delicious local flavors, or to find the perfect plant to take home, there’s something for everyone at the Apple Festival.


🥧 Apple Bake-Off Contest – Saturday, September 7th
  • Free registration for all bakers! (baker registration at checkout for that date)
  • Bring one item for judging and bite-size or sip-size samples for 100+ tastings.
  • Check-in & set-up: 11:00 AM
  • Tasting: 12:00 – 1:00 PM (cups/spoons provided or bring your own)
  • Award Ceremony: 1:30 PM

Categories: Taste, Appearance, and Best in Show. Judges will be selected from festival attendees — 5 families chosen at random will decide the winners!

  • Best Apprearance - 3rd prize Ribbon & $25 giftcard
  • Best Taste - 2nd prize ribbon & $50 giftcard
  • Best in Show - 1st Prize Ribbon & $100 giftcard

Info: On Sunday September 7th stop by the Apple Bake Off tent to taste this year's entries of pie, cakes, cookies, and more! 5 Lucky Families will be picked at random to be our official tasting judges!

Info: Take part in an educational and hands-on tour of the Colonial Farms animals! Tours depart on the top of the hour each hour with the last tour leaving at 2pm. Tour Times: 12 PM , 1 PM, 2 PM

Military Vehicle Tours - On The Half Hour Every Hour

Info: Jump aboard the Colonial HEMTT as we take a ride around the orchard and past the berry and flower fields. Caution: HEMTT rides leave the dock on the half hour each hour - last tour time 2:30. Tour Times: 11:30,12:30,1:30, & 2:30
