Fake Friends sound like a bunch of old hardcore guys trying to make pop songs. Yeah, on its face, that doesn't seem like it would be a good idea, but it's honestly one of the things that makes this band so fucking great. Sweet licks, infectious choruses, introspective lyrics with some epic breakdowns thrown in make for some intense and supremely addictive songs. The band is made up of a ragged crew of Montreal music scene veterans, including members from Trigger Effect, Kennedy and Mundy's Bay. As unlikely as it sounds, they got together at the very beginning of the pandemic as a way to stay sane(ish) and to keep creating new music. The result is their four-song Good Enough EP (released May 2022). With Fake Friends second release “Always Worse/Never Better” (release March 2024), the band has dialed in on a sound that is both nostalgic and fresh, luring in fans with their infectious choruses and addictive melodies. Blending Post-Punk with disco beats, Fake Friends has quickly become known as one of Montreal’s most energetic acts to grace the stage. The band has dropped the old “big things coming” mentality for a “If you don’t like it, who cares” attitude. Consisting of lead vocalist Matthew Savage, guitarists Luca Santilli and Felix Crawford-Legault, bassist Michael Kamps, synth specialist Timothy Aaron Bryan, and drummer Michael Jalil Khayat, their energetic set has brought them all over Canada's east coast - from Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City to the Maritimes. With tongue in cheek song themes inspired by Montreal’s eclectic nightlife, Fake Friends is looking to become a fan favourite very soon.
No Waves are a young Montreal band with punk influence. The three members connected a couple a years ago in high school though their love of music. They are a band that never hesitates to defend what is right by putting emphasis on it and sharing those messages within the community and music scene. A young promising trio that will make you smile and dance even on rainy days, their eclectic and growing fan base conveys their message that music is meant to be shared with all. They create an energetic, raw and authentic sound and have become known for their wild all-ages events and guerrilla shows. Described as “Nu-Punk”, they draw from a wide variety of influences and explore all types of genres and sounds ranging from hardcore to pop. That versatility has allowed them to play with artists like NOFX, Death From Above 1979, Gulfer, and P'tit Belliveau, among others.
