Join us to discuss faith, culture and the LGBTQ+ communityTuesday 21 October, 6pm to 8pm
Spark York community room
Members, non-members, allies and organisations welcome
No RSVP needed
The topic for discussion in our June meeting is faith, culture and the LGBTQ+ community, where we’ll be inviting conversation around:
How can religious organisations and cultural communities support LGBTQ+ of faith to feel welcome, included and safe?
How can local organisations support LGBTQ+ people who don't have support from their religious or cultural community?
What can we do to advocate for the rights, safety and identities of queer and trans people in our own communities?
What to expect
Our Open Meetings bring York LGBT Forum members together with LGBTQ+ allies and representatives from other charities, businesses, statutory organisations and community groups. Through open discussion, short presentations and conversation, we reflect on topics and issues that affect the LGBTQ+ community and look at what we can do to improve them.
In our October Open Meeting, we'll:
• Look at the the positive effects and the challenges of faith and cultural identity on LGBTQ+ people
• Listen to the reflections of queer and trans people of on the role of faith and culture in their lives
• Hear from local organisations welcoming LGBTQ+ people of faith and supporting those who have had negative experiences - what's happening in York, and what support is available?
