The origin story of Fairlight and the Magick is pretty mundane and hardly uncommon. The band came together through connections made though informal jams, broken-up bands and a Craigslist ad.
The pieces started coming together in the aftermath of Helene. The members of the band came from all directions; Chicago, Florida, Colorado and Charlotte to make Western North Carolina their home.
Once the band members were all in the same room, the power and soulfulness of Fairlight’s voice was astonishing. The mission of the band was clear; to develop and sound and style to fit Fairlight’s amazing talent. The first thing that became apparent was the rhythm section of Jeff Rubin on drums and Walter Anderson on bass brings a high level of skill, feeling and groove to whatever they play. Whether the song is a slow blues, driving rock, funky or soulful—there is always a deep pocket there. David Harris on guitar brings a gritty, driven, psychedelic blues sound to the band, but also plays with a sense of melody when the song calls for it.
As a band, Fairlight and the Magick plays with tons of feeling and soul!
