The Fairfield horseshoe is a great challenge to push yourself for a longer endurance walk. Starting with a steep climb at Nab Scar most of the height is gained. You’ll hit many Wain Wrights such as Nab scar, Heron Pike, Rydal Fell, Great Rigg, Fairfield, Hart Crag, Dove Crag, High Pike and Low Pike. As you walk around the horseshoe, you’ll see Grasmere on your left then Helvellyn as you make your way to Fairfield. The walk back to Ambleside is a gradual incline back into the town as you look over Windermere.
This is great training for anyone wishing to take on the Yorkshire, or National 3 Peak Challenge.
It takes approximately 7 hours to walk the full 16.6km.
This event is in total 16.6 km and a well-rewarded challenge! Once at the start of the hike, you will be led by trained mountain leaders round the full route.
A general/high level of fitness is required as you will be walking for 7 hours at a steady pace. We welcome anyone to join us! We have guided all abilities to the top of Scafell, and I believe there is no better achievement than stepping out of your comfort zone!
Height: 873 m (2,864 ft)
